First, we will add the main image and its link:

The “name” in the code is used to associate the first rollover image with the second. It also keeps you more organized. The link code will need to be directed to the page this image will lead you to, as always.

Now, we will add the second image, which will be what replaces the first image when it is hovered over:

After applying the above code and replacing all the paths to direct to your images, you should now have working rollovers. onmouseover is used to show that when you hover your mouse over the image, the second image will be shown instead.

A good idea to test out this code would be to make two arrow gifs. One could be pointing up and the other pointing downward so it is an obvious change when the image is hovered over.

If you know what a vector image is,  you’re probably wondering to yourself how in the world you could complete something like that in five minutes. Well, it’s not going to be an actual vector. In this tutorial, I will show you how you can manipulate an image to look similar to a vector. Please note: some images do not work with this method. Try and choose an image that is very clear because you can acheive better results with a clearer image.

Step 1:
Open your image in Photoshop and resize it as needed. I used this image of Zac Efron (no, I do not like him, it was just a good photo, no offense )

Step 2:
Click on Image –> Adjustments –> Threshold and set your threshold level to 128. You can play around with the threshold settings if you want, but for right now we are going with 128.

Step 3:
Click on Filter –> Stylize –> Diffuse and check the Anisotropic button.

Step 4:
Make sure you are still on the duplicated layer. Set the layer to Soft Light and the transparency to about 80%. Here’s where you can mess with the settings. Sometimes, if the image looks too dark when using Soft Light, I will just leave the setting to Normal and lower the transparency of the layer more than I would if I had changed the layer settings.

That is all! See how easy that was?! HERE is my finished product!

If this was your first time trying this it could take you a little longer than five minutes, but eventually you will be able to fly through it like it doesn’t even phase you.

These were all made in Photoshop CS2 (I know they’re not amazing, but Photoshop is new to me). I hope at least some of you have a good use for them. Please take a look at the Terms of Use before downloading.
